New year, new you, right? Not always. It seems like for all our trying, a lot of us can’t stick to those resolutions we make after the clock strikes midnight. But that doesn’t have to be the case this year!
If you make realistic resolutions for yourself, you’ll find that you can end 2019 as optimistically as you started.
Make, and go to, your doctor appointments. Whether it’s your annual primary care appointment or bi-annual dental visit, be sure to stick to your appointment schedule. It’s easy to push off these tasks, but preventative health measures are key to identifying (and treating) problems or diseases before symptoms are present.
Integrate more exercise into your daily routine. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. Go for walks on your lunch break. Walk over and talk to a colleague instead of sending an email. Find reasons to get up and move around. Making even the smallest changes can have a huge impact on your energy levels, your health, and even your weight loss efforts!
Don’t skip meals. Don’t wait until you’re ravenous or hangry to eat. Skipping meals makes you hungrier; not to mention mess with your digestive system. Instead, eat every two to three hours — bonus points if you start incorporating more healthy options to your diet.
Don’t deprive yourself, either! Just because you want to eat healthier, it doesn’t mean you should deprive yourself of your favorite foods. This “all or nothing” approach can set you up for failure. Instead, incorporate more nutrient-rich foods into your diet and allow yourself the occasional treat.
Make time for self-care. Stress and strain can wear you down, leave you vulnerable to sickness, and even exacerbate mental health issues. Resolve to find an outlet in 2019 — whether that means meditation, reading for pleasure, or taking advantage of our KMC Active facility, find it and use it!
Escape technology. Easier said than done, sure. Nowadays we’re practically tuned in 24/7 between our phones, TVs, and computers. This new year, try and unplug for an hour (or longer) a day and give your eyes a break from staring at a screen.
