                Kirby Auxiliary Annual Luncheon 2019

                August 22, 2019

                Kirby Medical Center’s Auxiliary held its annual luncheon on Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Monticello Community Building. Approximately 80 members and guests attended, including family members of newly elected board members and Thomas Dixon Scholarship recipients.

                Each year the Auxiliary donates the proceeds from gift shop sales and other fundraising events to The Kirby Foundation. This year, Auxiliary Treasurer, Irma Raycraft, presented a $29,000 check to Kirby CEO Steve Tenhouse during the meeting. This donation will support the purchase of medical equipment- vein viewer and curved paddle for mammograms.

                Yvonne Howland was named Auxilian of the Year for her hard work and dedication to managing the free blood pressure screenings held at Kirby Medical Center for Kirby Auxiliary.

                The 2019-2020 Kirby Auxiliary officers were installed:

                President: Michelle Hillard

                VP: Susan Waibel

                Secretary: Pat Rhoades

                Treasurer: Irma Raycraft

                The Kirby Auxiliary also awarded a total of $49,700 in scholarships to 15 students.

                Thomas Dixon Memorial Scholarship Continuing Recipients:

                1. Sophie Catlin: Sophie earned an Associate Degree in Nursing in May 2019 and will be attending Illinois State University this fall to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She plans to graduate in the Fall of 2020. She is the daughter of Steve and Donna Catlin.

                2. Sarah Gehres:Sarah graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in May 2019. She will be continuing her education at the University of Evansville this fall pursing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She is the daughter of Richard and Margie Gehres of Clinton. She is the daughter of Richard and Margie Gehres of Clinton.

                3. Anna Haugen:Anna is a senior at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) this fall, majoring in Communicative Disorders. She will graduate in December 2019 and plans to become a speech pathologist working in a clinical or hospital setting. Anna is the daughter of Benjie Haugen of Monticello and the late Joseph Haugen.

                4. Taylor Helenthal:Taylor will be a senior at the University of Alabama, majoring in Food and Nutrition. Her goal is to become a Registered Dietitian. Taylor is the daughter of John and Rebecca Helenthal of Monticello.

                5. Camryn Menacher:Camryn will be a junior at Millikin University this fall, majoring in Nursing.Her goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner.Camryn is the daughter of Jason and Delanie Menacher of Monticello.

                6. Hannah Oberheim:Hannah is a sophomore in the Nursing Program at Illinois Wesleyan University.Her goal is to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.Hannah is the daughter of Chris and Amber Oberheim of Monticello.

                7. Kendal Pokorny:Kendal will be a senior at the University of Alabama, majoring in Food and Nutrition.She plans to become a Registered Dietician.Kendal is the daughter of Christopher and Tracy Pokorny of Monticello.

                  Thomas Dixon Memorial Scholarship First Time Recipients:

                8. Kenneth David Alexander: David will be a freshman this fall studying Biomedical Engineering at Arizona State University. He plans to obtain a Master’s degree in 5 years in the 4 plus 1 program and hopes to perform research on diseases such as cancer and ALS. David is the son of Angie Stanford of Monticello.

                9. Hannah Carter: Hannah will be in her first year in Radiology Technician program at Parkland College this fall. She plans to become an X-Ray Technician. Hannah is the daughter of Adrian and Vickie Carter of Monticello.

                10. Jill Clark: Jill is working toward a Master’s of Health Promotion and Leadership/ Public Health at Eastern Illinois University. She has worked as a radiologic technologist for over 18 years, with certification in mammography and computed tomography. Her goal is to work in Quality and Infection. Jill’s parents are Robert and Elizabeth Clark.

                11. Abigail Elston: Abigail will be a freshman at Eastern Illinois University this fall in Communication Disorders and Sciences. She hopes to become a Speech Language Pathologist. Abigail is the daughter of Christopher and Kathy Elston of Monticello.

                12. Tracy Pokorny: Tracy will be working toward a Master of Science in Nursing Emphasis in Education at Western Governors University. She hopes to become a nurse educator/ instructor at the collegiate level. Tracy, her husband Christopher, and two children live in Monticello.

                13. Josiah Ratts: Josiah will be a freshman at the University of Michigan studying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her hopes to become a nurse practitioner. Josiah is the son of Rich and Nancy Ratts of Monticello.

                14. Jarron Roy: Jarron will be a junior at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign, majoring in Bioengineering. His goal is to become a physician. Jarron is the son of Kevin and Keely Roy of Monticello.

                15. Sydney Walker: Sydney will be a junior Nursing major at Missouri Baptist University. Her goal is to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Sydney is the daughter of Michael and Darci Walker of Oakley.

                In addition to their fundraising efforts, this year Auxiliary members recorded over 5,976.75 volunteer hours. Auxiliary member’s staffs free blood pressure screenings on Tuesday mornings.
