Why did you choose to work in healthcare?
I am a second-generation nurse so, you could say nursing is in my genes.
I knew from a very young age that I would become a nurse. Nursing challenges
me intellectually, ethically, and spiritually which allows for tremendous
personal growth. It also provides a platform to give generously to individuals,
families, and my greater community. I can’t think of another career
that offers such a range of reward.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best part of my job is the opportunity I have to be of service to our
patients. I work hard to meet their needs in a friendly and timely manner.
I know how nerve wracking it is to wait for the results of labs or tests.
I have been the mommy of a sick little and the daughter of a sick parent
and wife of a spouse having a procedure. I know that these times require
compassion, timeliness, and precision. I know when I have offered these
qualities to patients because I hear it in their voices and see it in
their faces. When it’s a job well done, it’s the best.
What have you gained from being part of our Kirby Team?
Working with the team here at Kirby as been like coming home for me. It
has been such a pleasure to work with such a motivated, intelligent, and
fun group. I look forward to coming to work every day because this really
does feel like a work “family.” I couldn’t be more honored
and proud to be apart of the Kirby Team!
Tell us about your family.
I have a husband and 3 children. My husband, Russ, is a chemical engineer
and works for Ameren. We moved here almost 4 years ago from Tulsa, Oklahoma
for his job with Ameren. It’s been a big change but well worth it.
My oldest is Ian, he is 19 and is a lover of all things Manga. My oldest
daughter is Jackie. She graduates from Centennial High School this May
and is enrolled in 3 choir classes! My youngest daughter, Madeleine, is
4 years old and she loves Twilight Sparkle and Paw Patrol (Skye is her
favorite pup!). We all share a common love for super heroes, however,
we are a house divided: Marvel vs. DC Comics.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I love to read historical fiction and sci-fi books. I do crafts: wreath
making, scrapbooking, etc. I also like to refinish furniture and chalk
paint. I love taking something old and tired and making it new and purposeful again.
Four words that describe you.
Thoughtful, Friendly, Creative, Motivated
What is something your excited about in 2019?
I am very excited to be going to Europe this summer! My husband and I will
be traveling primarily to Paris, France but we plan on spending some time
in Sweden, Belgium, and Holland as well.
