CT Scanning in Monticello
Kirby Medical Center Diagnostic Tests
CT imaging (computed tomography) is an imaging technique that combines
x-rays with sophisticated computers to produce multiple images of the
body’s insides. The result of these scans are cross-sectional images
that display on a computer monitor.
CT scans utilize digital x-rays, which provide much more detailed images
of organs, tissue, bone, and blood vessels than standard x-rays.
How CT Scanning Works
With this advanced equipment and their specialized medical training,
radiologists can more easily diagnose a variety of health problems from CT Scans. Kirby
Medical Center's 64-Slice GE CT Scanner provides clear and detailed
images to aid in interpretation of your health care needs.
CT scanning helps to diagnose
- Cancers
- Cardiovascular disease
- Infectious disease
- Stroke damage
- Internal trauma
- Musculoskeletal disorders
CT scanners are large devices that take pictures of the body with x-rays
and computer technology. Patients lie on a table that moves around so
that the machine can take x-rays from different angles. These pictures
are then sent to a computer. The computer then uses a special program
which constructs a highly detailed 2D imagine of the patient’s insides.
Interpreting the results of the scan may take a few days. Provided you
feel fine after the exam is concluded, doctors usually clear patients
to go home afterwards. Once a radiologist has concluded their review of
the scan, they will contact your doctor who will update you on their findings.
