Cardiac Rehabilitation in Piatt County

Keep Your Heart Healthy For Years to Come

Kirby Medical Center offers Phase II and III Cardiac Rehabilitation programs. Our team will create a plan from a combination of physical exercise, education, and counseling designed specifically for each patient’s needs. Both programs are designed for the patient to become more physically fit and to acquire a better understanding of their disease while learning to minimize their risk for further problems.

  • Phase II Cardiac Rehab – This is an outpatient program for patients who have recently suffered a cardiac event like a heart attack. Participants perform customized exercises while wearing a heart monitor three times a week. The program lasts from 6-12 weeks, and includes education on lifestyle and dietary changes to improve hearth health.
  • Phase III Cardiac Rehab – Once a patient has completed Phase II Rehab, they may continue therapy in Phase III if they have enough risk factors that more assistance is needed. Participants monitor their progress under the supervision of the rehabilitation staff.

Benefits of Cardiac Rehab

Creating healthy habits is hard. When it is not a regular part of your routine, fitting exercise into your schedule can feel like a major chore. Cardiac rehab lasts for several weeks so that patients can grow accustomed to the exercise and diet changes, and turn them from chores to habits. Not only will the program improve your cardiovascular health, you should see several other benefits as well.

With cardiac rehab, you should see improvement in:

  • Weight management
  • Stress
  • Blood sugar
  • Strength and fitness
  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol levels

Many cardiac problems are linked to depression and stress. Part of your therapy may include techniques to improve your mental wellbeing. By the end of the program, many patients feel significantly better in both mind and body.
