Speech Therapy

The Speech Therapy department at Kirby Medical Center offers the expertise and personal services of a licensed speech pathologist who works with both adults and children. We provide speech therapy services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

How Speech Therapy Works

Communication-based speech therapy programs help children and adults produce speech that is understandable. That development can help express their needs and interact appropriately with others as they develop in the speech therapy sessions.

Speech therapy can help with:

  • Stuttering and stammering
  • Volume control
  • Mumbling
  • Lisps
  • Pronunciation
  • Stroke recovery
  • Patient’s ability to understand speech

Speech pathologists use a variety of techniques to determine what the patient’s exact disorder is. Their evaluation covers the patient’s ability to articulate and fluently string words together. If the patient has difficulty eating, a speech pathologist can also create swallow-based programs that assist patients with swallowing disorders and diet consistency modification.
