What type of exercise should I be doing? What should I be eating? How much
water should I be drinking? What type of shoe should I be wearing to workout in?
The circular thinking involved in trying to figure out the best way to
achieve exceptional health can be exhausting at times and is one reason
why so many give up so easily on sticking with their health, wellness,
and fitness goals. I get multiple questions like the ones above on a daily
basis from people wanting to know what the right thing is for them or
what they need to do to achieve better health. There is no magic formula
or solution for achieving tremendous health. Just a common sense approach.
We’re here to take away the myth that there is a quick fix to a
healthy lifestyle.
1. What type of exercise should you be doing?
- The one you’re not doing right now. Do what is going to keep you
involved and engaged. Whether it be walking, riding a bike, lifting weights,
doing body weight exercises, running, jumping rope…whatever it
is do it with varying degrees of intensity and stick with it! Will you
be more fit if you have capacity in all of these areas – absolutely!
But for now, do something! There is no magic formula or program out there.
You have to put in work.
2. What should I be eating?
-
With movement and exercise comes a desire to want to fuel better. Stay
away from processed, simple carbohydrate, sugar loaded foods and beverages.
Eat real food, period. Shop on the outside aisles of the grocery store,
not in the middle ones. Make common sense choices. If you’re full,
don’t go back for more (see
hedonic hunger). Did I mention stay way from sugar? Most modern health issues could be
solved simply by staying away from sugar on a more frequent basis. More
to come on that, later…
There is no quick fix, just a choice – daily – to improve in
some small way. No matter the severity, a choice has to be made –
even if it’s a small one. A lot of small choices lead to fixing
a big problem. Positive choice can lead to big things in your life. It
is never too late to kick start your health and start making positive
changes. I’ll do it with you!
