For many, putting together your list of resolutions can be a reminder of all the goals you had last year that might have never come to fruition. However, with the beginning of 2020 just up ahead, we want to remind you how important it is to remember the small victories and wins.
While you may not have ran that marathon you wanted to, did you drink more water this year? By focusing on the wins and setting realistic goals, you can end the year with a few successful 2020 resolutions. Here are a few to consider:
Resolutions Everyone Can Benefit From
Add Vegetables to Each Meal
The American Heart Association suggests that the average adult gets four servings of fruit and five servings of vegetables per day. Unfortunately, though, we often fall short of that. However, by swapping out some of your go-to meals or snacks with fruits and vegetables, you can get the vitamins and minerals your body needs while helping to manage a healthy weight.
Watch Your Water Intake
Though coffee and fruit juice counts towards your daily intake of fluids, you should make it a point to consume water. If drinking the recommended 8 cups a day is not something you are currently keeping up with, work your way up. You might want to start your morning off with a full glass of water. Doing so will keep you on the right track all day. Another option is to invest in a reusable water bottle that you like. Some modern ones even let you know when it’s time to drink again, too.
Getting Proper Rest
Lack of sleep can affect you mentally and physically. Though many might feel ok with just a few hours of sleep at night, it can have long-term effects, such as an increase in appetite and a higher risk of hypertension. If your goal this year is to get proper rest, there are a few ways you can attempt to do just that.
Set a specific bedtime and wake time each day, avoid caffeine a few hours before your bedtime, and stop screen time an hour before hitting the pillow. If you still find yourself fighting to fall or stay asleep, it might be time to consider visiting our KMC sleep center.
Schedule Your Annual Exams
Your yearly visit is one of the most important parts of preventive care. With regular well exams, you’ll build a strong relationship with your doctor and have a clear understanding of your health year after year, allowing you to find any warning signs or symptoms early on. So as we enter January, we encourage everyone to consider scheduling any followup or wellness exams they’ve been putting off.
