In today’s busy nonstop world, family time has become a precious and sometimes rare thing. From running your kids from activity-to-activity to weekend parties and events, scheduling in some family bonding time can seem impossible to do, but the benefits are so worth it.
Here are a few ways you and your family can get some healthy activity and bonding time in today, and all summer long:
Take the Dog for a Walk
Your four-legged friend is part of your family, too! By taking a nice long walk with your family and pet, you can get some fresh air, explore the neighborhood, and get in your physical activity for the day. In fact, according to the CDC, adults need 2 ½ hours a week of aerobic exercise, such as faced paced walking. Including your kids and family members will set them on the road to good habits and help you all maintain a healthy weight.
Be a Kid for a Day
Get in on the family fun and take the day to go to the park, ride bikes, jump on a scooter or whatever outside activities your kids enjoy. Let them teach you a few tricks and spend the day enjoying the outdoors. The fresh air and physical activity can have you burning calories while forming shared interests as a family.
Family Day
Physical activity helps kids build strong bones and muscles, and bone-strengthening activities, such as baseball, basketball or tennis, are all excellent way for your kids to get their 60 minutes a day in. It’s also a great way to teach sportsmanship and spend a family day together.
Explore Local Trails
It’s the perfect time of year to go and explore your local areas. The Kirby Wellness Trail is a one-mile long path connected to a healing garden to promote overall health and wellness. Bike or walk with your family, stop at “reflection points” and discuss the beauty around you. Just don’t forget to stretch first!
At Kirby Medical Center, we’re dedicated to your whole health! That’s why we offer wellness services as part of our preventative healthcare program. From weight loss support to exercise classes, we can help you live a healthier lifestyle.
