Warning Signs of A Heart Attack in Men

                June 9, 2020

Know The Early Warning Signs of a Heart Attack

Contrary to popular belief, not all symptoms of a heart attack start with the chest. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it could point to a heart attack so it’s important to get help as soon as possible.

                Discomfort in the Chest

One of the most common warning signs of a heart attack is chest pain. You may also experience tightness, pressure, or squeezing in your chest. It may last more than a few minutes or it may go away and then return.

                Discomfort in the Arms

One of the most common heart attack symptoms is pain or discomfort in both arms but it can be more prevalent on the left side of the body. Pain may also be felt in the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.

                Shortness of Breath

Feeling short of breath could come with or without chest pain. If you feel suddenly faint or out of balance as well, contact your doctor immediately.

                Nausea or Vomiting

While feeling nauseous or vomiting typically happens when you’ve eaten something that has not agreed with you, it can also be a symptom of a heart attack — and it’s especially important to pay attention to this symptom if it’s accompanied by other common heart attack symptoms. Women are more likely to report symptoms of nausea, indigestion, heartburn, or stomach pain, during a heart attack, but men can have these symptoms too.

What to Do If You Are Having a Heart Attack

If you are experiencing a heart attack, it’s critical to act fast — even if you aren’t sure, it’s always best to be checked by a doctor. Call 911 immediately so you can get access to lifesaving treatments as quickly as possible.

                Contact Kirby Medical Center
