August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month, and at Kirby Medical Center, we’re proud to support the health and well-being of mothers, babies, and families through compassionate, evidence-based lactation care.
Whether you’re preparing to breastfeed for the first time, facing challenges, or simply looking for guidance, you don’t have to go it alone. Kirby Medical Group offers a range of services to support your unique journey — because your feeding goals matter.
Meet Our Lactation Specialist: Lauren Coovert, PA-C, CLC
As a certified lactation counselor, Lauren Coovert brings warmth, clinical expertise, and real-world understanding to every patient encounter. From troubleshooting latch issues to navigating milk supply concerns, she offers individualized support tailored to your needs and your baby’s health.
Appointments are available at Kirby Medical Group in Monticello — and support doesn’t stop after your first visit. Lauren partners with families through every phase, from the newborn period to weaning.
Human Milk Donation: The Mother’s Milk Bank
Kirby Medical Center also serves as a milk depot for the Mother’s Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. This allows local mothers with extra breast milk to donate in a medically safe and convenient way.
Donated milk is pasteurized and distributed to fragile infants, especially those in NICUs who may not have access to their own mother’s milk. One donation can make a profound difference in the life of a newborn.
If you’re interested in becoming a milk donor, the process is simple — and our team is here to guide you.
Why Breastfeeding Support Matters
Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition and immune protection for infants. It also supports maternal health and fosters important bonding moments. But the journey can be complex, emotional, and even overwhelming at times.
That’s why support matters. At Kirby, we’re committed to walking beside parents — providing education, encouragement, and expert care when it matters most.
